FLORA CURIOSA appears a mysterious artefact that consists of a rotation moulded polyurethane body and protruding forms.

The vase’s origin and function are unknown yet provide a glimpse perhaps, for a moment, of the discovery of a new world seen for the very first time. It’s that moment of the first time, when all senses are open that a world beyond surface can be felt and seen. In this way Flora Curiosa’s intend is to recreate the experience of Cryptobotany and cryptozoology, fields of science dedicated to the study and search for formally undescribed plants and animals.

Ambiguity is used as a visual language to open up meanings, references and associations to allow for, and seduce the viewer into, deeper contemplation of the design in a way that the literal and prescriptive does not. In this way the audience is invited to participate into imagining the possible meanings of the work and so become part of the narration.

This vase is an exponent of Moorer’s continuous investigation into the world of hand-made objects that are poetic and expressive, as opposed to literal and formal. And so to invoke the imaginal experience through objects. Moorer finds this important because he is one of those people who believe that what we should hold dear in contemporary society are poetic spaces for imagination and expression. Craft inhabits this by being an intimate experience and that’s why it is important – especially in today’s world which sometimes seems devoid of empathy.
